Xshielder currently supports the iPhone 16 Pro Max, with plans to support additional models in the future.

Can I use my iPhone's features when it's inside the enclosure?

Yes. Our enclosures are designed to maintain full usability, including the camera, touchscreen, Face ID, and buttons. The phone can be charged wirelessly while inside the enclosure.

Is the enclosure permanently attached to the phone?

No, the device can be returned and the iPhone extracted for resale or re-use outside hazardous areas

Is it possible to make phone calls while using the enclosure?

Yes. The design allows sound transmission, and you can use Bluetooth headsets or speakerphone functionality as needed.

What certification does the enclosure have?

Our enclosures are certified according to ATEX and IECEx Zone 1/21 standards. They are also IP65/IP66 rated and compliant with ISO 9001:2015.

Is the iPhone 17 Pro Max suitable for use in hazardous areas? The iPhone 17 Pro Max is not rated for hazardous areas in its standard form. Paired with the Xshielder ATEX and IECEx-certified case, it becomes a fully certified Zone 1 and Zone 2 device, approved for use in explosive gas and dust atmospheres. The certification covers the complete assembly — case and device together.

What ATEX zones is the Xshielder iPhone 17 Pro Max certified for? The Xshielder iPhone 17 Pro Max is certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 and Zone 21 — the highest risk classifications for continuously or frequently present explosive gas and dust atmospheres. It is also suitable for Zone 2 and Zone 22 environments.

Can I use the iPhone 17 Pro Max camera in a Zone 1 environment? Yes. The full 48MP Pro camera system, including LiDAR scanner, remains operational within the Xshielder case. This means thermal inspections, site documentation, and 3D mapping workflows can be completed directly from a certified Zone 1 device, without carrying separate equipment.

How long will the iPhone 17 Pro Max be supported in hazardous environments? Apple provides a minimum of five to six years of software and security updates for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Combined with Xshielder's replaceable cover design — which allows the case to be reused across device upgrades — the total lifespan of the solution significantly exceeds that of most purpose-built intrinsically safe phones.

Can the Xshielder case be used with enterprise MDM systems? Yes. Because the device runs standard iOS, it is fully compatible with Apple's native MDM framework and integrates with enterprise platforms including Microsoft Intune, Jamf, and SAP. Security policies, app deployment, and remote management work the same as any other managed iPhone in your fleet.
