Mining
Reagent stores, SX plants, charging bays. ATEX Zone 1 iPhone and iPad for the mine site.
The hazard
Where the hazard is
Xanthate in the reagent store breaks down into carbon disulphide, which can be ignited by a surface at around 90°C. Diluent vapour collects around the SX settlers, and lead-acid batteries release hydrogen on charge. With a certified iPhone, workers keep their phone on them through all three.
Reagent storage and mixing
Warm or damp xanthate gives off more carbon disulphide, which collects in closed stores and tanks. Zone 1, plus Zone 21 dust.
Solvent extraction and hydromet
Mixers can turn diluent into a flammable mist below its flash point, and flowing organic builds static. Zone 1 or 2, by plant.
Battery charging bays
Gassing peaks at the end of each charge, and the hydrogen rises to gather under the roof. Zone 1 or 2, depending on ventilation.
The cost today
What the two-device routine costs
Most sites solve the zone boundary with a second device: a legacy Ex phone with a small screen, a weak camera and its own app catalogue. The cost rarely shows up on an invoice. It shows up as photos that get retaken, readings written down and typed in later, and calls that wait until someone is back in the safe area.
- Two devices, two loginsOne for the office, one for the zone. Neither talks to the other.
- Paper between zone and deskReadings and checklists re-typed after the round, with the errors that brings.
- Grainy photos, no videoLegacy cameras cannot show the problem well enough for onshore or the vendor to help.
- Apps that do not existYour MES, CMMS or Teams have no version for the rugged handset.
The shift
One device. Every zone on the site.
From the control room to the reagent store and out to the SX plant, the classification changes with every bund and every door. The device does not. Select an area to see what changes and what stays the same.
The work
What your team does with it
- Reagent rounds and dosing checks Log dosing rates, tank levels and gas readings where they are taken. Straight into the historian or the CMMS.
- Pre-starts and defect reports Open the work order at the machine, attach the photo, close it there. Whatever your EAM runs on.
- Inspections with photo and LiDAR Launders, bunds and reagent lines documented on the round. 48 MP camera, no separate device.
- Shift handover and short interval control The plan, the deviation and the reason, captured on shift rather than after it.
- Video call to the OEM or the control room Let the vendor see the fault from the plant floor. No flight to site for a first diagnosis.

The offer
What Xshielder provides
Not a rugged phone with a small app store. A certified enclosure around the iPhone and iPad your people already know, delivered ready for Zone 1.

Phone and enclosure certified together as one unit. Certificates and documentation ready for your HSE file.
iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 and iPad Pro 11". Same iOS, same apps, same MDM your IT already runs.
Arrives ready to hand out. No field assembly, no user-serviceable parts, certification intact.
Photo, video and LiDAR work through the enclosure. We test it and publish the results.
Apple Business Manager and your MDM. Lock it to camera-only or open it up fully.
Apple's long update cycle and our support keep devices in the field for years, not seasons.
