Manufacturing & logistics
Warehouses, filling lines, tank cleaning. Scan, log and call on an ATEX iPhone in Zone 1.
The hazard
Where the hazard is
Open a drum bung and solvent vapour comes out with it. Tip a sack and fine dust fills the air. These zones are small and scattered, so with a certified iPhone a picker crosses them all shift without swapping devices, and work instructions are open on an iPad at the line.
Warehouses and drum stores
A punctured drum can spread vapour across the floor of the store, so the whole room is Zone 2, rising to Zone 1 at the open bung.
Filling lines and powder handling
Pneumatic transfer charges powder with static, and dust collectors hold a cloud inside them all shift. Zone 21 around the line.
Battery charging rooms
Most hydrogen is released near the end of a charge, often overnight, and collects at roof level. Zone 1 or 2, depending on airflow.
The cost today
What the two-device routine costs
Most sites solve the zone boundary with a second device: a legacy Ex phone with a small screen, a weak camera and its own app catalogue. The cost rarely shows up on an invoice. It shows up as photos that get retaken, readings written down and typed in later, and calls that wait until someone is back in the safe area.
- Two devices, two loginsOne for the office, one for the zone. Neither talks to the other.
- Paper between zone and deskReadings and checklists re-typed after the round, with the errors that brings.
- Grainy photos, no videoLegacy cameras cannot show the problem well enough for onshore or the vendor to help.
- Apps that do not existYour MES, CMMS or Teams have no version for the rugged handset.
The shift
One device. Every zone on the site.
From the shift room to the charging room and out to the tanker bay, the classification changes with every line on the floor. The device does not. Select an area to see what changes and what stays the same.
The work
What your team does with it
- Scanning and stock moves inside the zone Pick, putaway and count against the WMS. Barcode, DataMatrix and GS1, no separate handheld.
- Work orders at the machine Open the job at the conveyor, attach the photo, close it there. Whatever your CMMS runs on.
- Digital work instructions and changeovers The current version on the line, with the checklist signed where the work happens.
- Goods-in and loading checks Seal numbers, labels and driver documents captured at the bay instead of the gatehouse.
- Video call to engineering or the supplier Show the fault from the floor. Teams, FaceTime or your own tool.
Your systems
Works with what you already run
