The hazard
Where the hazard is
Xylene and MEK vapour is heavier than air and travels along the floor when a dissolver lid is open. In the spray booth, atomised paint fills the air while the gun runs. With a certified iPhone or iPad, the people making and applying the coating record batches and inspections on the spot.
Mixing halls and solvent handling
High-speed dispersion heats the batch and raises vapour output, and tipping powder into solvent builds static. Zone 1 and Zone 21.
Spray booths and paint kitchens
The booth stays Zone 1 until extraction clears it after spraying. Paint kitchens add vapour from mixing and gun cleaning.
Tank farms, filling and powders
Each can gives off vapour as it fills, and flowing solvent builds static. Aluminium flake is a conductive dust, group IIIC. Zone 1 and 21.

What the two-device routine costs
Most sites solve the zone boundary with a second device: a legacy Ex phone with a small screen, a weak camera and its own app catalogue. The cost rarely shows up on an invoice. It shows up as photos that get retaken, readings written down and typed in later, and calls that wait until someone is back in the safe area.
